The Louisville Sports Commission has been bringing in a number of athletic opportunities in recent years, from events to awards (notably the Paul Hornung Award) the commission has been working to make Louisville a little more active, with that in mind, I thought I’d take a look at some of the upcoming sporting events they have planned.
First of all, the Louisville Ironman competition is set for August 26th, participants in this event will be running, biking, and swimming in a number of areas around the city; for more info check out their website.
For any extreme sports enthusiasts the BMX Eastern Division Finals are coming to the ‘Ville from August 31st to September 2nd. This event is set to occur at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park; for more info check out their website.
A little less than a month after that the 11th annual greater Louisville Cross Country Classic will kick off September 29th also at Sawyer Park, you can find more stuff on that event here.
Staying in E.P. Tom Sawyer Park and with running on October 13th the LSC has been planning for the Cross Country Pre- Nationals, more information can be found at their site.
The Louisville Sports Commission Half Marathon and Louisville Pure Tap 5K, the half marathon follows the Cross Country events on November 3rd. This event is set to begin at the KFC Yum! Center, go through Cherokee Park and conclude on Main Street. While the Pure Tap 5K takes a similar route but varies by taking participants through the Waterfront rather than Cherokee. Anybody interested in this opportunity needs to check out their website.
Closing out the year is the USGP Cyclocross- Derby City Cup which has been set for the dates of November 10th through 11th at Eva Bandman Park. More info is at their website.
If this proves nothing else, the LSC has certainly been staying busy.
