It’s the most wonderful time of the year: JCPS students are heading back to school in just two weeks. However, getting ready involves more than shopping for new shoes, as kids are required to have up-to-date immunization records and, for younger children, a dental exam. To help parents and children meet the Kentucky health requirements, the University of Louisville School of Dentistry is offering free comprehensive screenings. Also, immunization requirements for Kentucky students have been amended, adding or altering the types of some vaccines required for school as well as changing some vaccination schedules. And, while not every school requires eye exams, an end-of-summer eye exam can identify vision problems that could keep a child from doing well once classes begin.
Want to know more? Tomorrow, Friday, July 29, Dr. Ann Greenwell will discuss the importance of good oral health at an early age. She will be joined by Dr. Becky Carothers, who will discuss other required healthcare exams and offer tips to help your child’s return to school go smoothly.
Dr. Greenwell is the director of UofL’s Pediatric Dental Residency Program, and Dr. Carothers is the medical director of the UofL Children & Youth Project.
The information session, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 10 a.m. at the UofL School of Dentistry, 501 S. Preston Street, Conference Room 300.
