If you’re kicking around town this weekend and you’re wondering about some live music that might fly under the radar, shows that you haven’t seen posters around town for, or been invited to attend on some sort of Facebook invite.
Well here are a few options for this weekend.
Small Time Napoleon is a local jazz collective that will be celebrating the release of their new album with a show at Clifton Center on Friday May 15th. The band describes itself as: “Jazz(ish) swing with modern(ish) roots.” The new album “Cloud Machine” allowed band members Dan Hardin, Jeff Thomas, Ryan Fowler, and David Neill – to mix their wide array of influences from Tom Waits and John Prine to Elvis Costello and Rufus Wainwright – into some sort of jazz like concoction of eccentricities. The show will also feature Alex Wright and the Maven Down. Concert begins at 8:00 PM and tickets are $10.
Keltricity will be performing at The Bards Town on May 15th. Ketricity is a group of like-minded musicians that play traditional folk and Celtic music. Playing traditional songs with origins that span the globe, Ireland, Cape Breton, Scotland, England, Brittany, New England and French Canada. The show will begin at 7:00 PM and it is a suggested $5 donation at the door.
Fred Thomas will be performing at New Vintage on Sunday May 17th. The show will be the release party for his upcoming solo album, as well, entitled “All are Saved” (released on Polyvinyl Records). Thomas has worked in bands like Saturday Looks Good To Me, City Center, and Failed Flowers. “All Are Saved” has been getting preliminary praise from critics all over, including: Pitchfork, Paste, The FADER, and Stereogum. Bookshelf will also be on the bill. The show starts at 8:00 PM and tickets will be $7.
