If you’ve always been curious about trying a little belly dancing, now is absolutely the time to satisfy that curiosity. I say that because in the U.S., there are really only two well-known belly dancers--they are twins, and one of them is coming to Louisville to teach a workshop. Could there be a better chance to give it a try?
Veena of the Bellytwins (her sister is Neena), whom you may have seen in one of her many television or movie appearances, is presenting a belly dance workshop, Monday, June 16, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 360 Dance. The price is a very reasonable $30, for ages 15 and up. You will need to pre-register, as space is limited, by Monday, June 9. A couple of options for registration payment are listed on the event’s Facebook page.
No experience is necessary. Just wear comfortable clothes, and a hip scarf if you’ve got it. You’ll learn about the hand mudras, or gestures, that are a key part of belly dance, and choreography to a “contemporary” belly dance song.
Veena will be available for a short while after the class.
