Trends From Fashion Week SS13: The Return of the Fur [Fashion]
    Print this page

From the runways of Paris Fashion Week to the upcoming Waterfront Fashion Week, the Spring/Summer 2013 fashion season promises many interesting ideas to consider for your closet in the coming months, along with trends that have stayed with us for the past few trips down the catwalk. Allow me to guide you, dear readers, through the backstage racks as I pull out a few pieces for your perusal this season.

Fur has made a comeback this season, and I do not mean the PETA-approved synthetics of years past. Fox, mink, rabbit, if you were in the market for something luxurious that also wasn’t made out of petrochemicals that will take anywhere from 500 to 1,000 years to return to whence it was harvested, then this is your time to act.

Why real fur, and why now? Perhaps some designers – such as John Galliano, whose piece for Christian Dior’s autumn/winter 2012 runway collection can be viewed to your left – felt that with the current economic climate, cold enough as it is, it was time to bring back ideas and pieces from an era gone by, to renew a desire for the finer things in life, as it were. Real fur just so happens to be one of those things.

Should you be interested in owning a real fur piece, Yudofsky Furriers, John Seelye Furs, or Sunny Daize are a few local options to consider. As for styling a piece, shoes and accessories are your best option, whether you opt for a pair of leather riding boots, a printed wool scarf, or a matching fur hat. If nothing else, you’ll be ready for the coming winter.

As always, should this trend be not for you, fear not: Dressing for your body is more important than any trend, no matter who says otherwise.
