From the runways of Louisville's Best Dressed to those of Milan, the Spring/Summer 2013 fashion week season promises many interesting ideas to consider for your closet in the coming months, along with trends that have stayed with us for the past few trips down the catwalk. Allow me to guide you, dear readers, through the backstage racks as I pull out a few pieces for your perusal this season.

While yesterday's spotlight on sheer pieces aren't for the wealth managers at Hilliard Lyons -- as noted on the local financial firm's Facebook fan page -- the peplum is definitely welcome there, in any classroom within JCPS, even at a table at Seviche. This particular trend has been with us since the Spring/Summer 2012 fashion week season, putting the peplum on par with Haley's Comet ever since it first walked down the runway in the 1940s. Much like a fine wine, the perennial does improve with age, as this piece from the Emerson SS13 Collection shown during NY Fashion Week illustrates.

One option to consider is to wear a peplum blazer over either a peplum top, dress or skirt. If both pieces are also denim, then the fashion fun will have been doubled, as both are on-trend; just vary the washes between the two articles. Otherwise, a single peplum item shall do, the point being to give you the wearer an hourglass silhouette no matter what you choose.

As for where to find the peplum, look anywhere from Circe and Clodhoppers to Francesca's and Nitty Gritty Vintage, the latter for peplums from the past decades if unique pieces are of interest to your wardrobe.

As always, should this trend be not for you, fear not: Dressing for your body is more important than any trend, no matter who says otherwise.
