Dress up your style, then your turkey, this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving. Style. Two concepts that sound as if they go together about as well as Thanksgiving and Black Friday… Oh. Yeah. Never mind. Anyway, if the idea of donning casual items such as football jerseys, track suits or whatever happens to be clean at the moment kills any thoughts you may have to eating the most wonderful of turkeys, cranberry sauces and pumpkin pies, allow me to give you a few ideas for your consideration, lest you end up sitting at the kids’ table this Thanksgiving.

Did you happen to attend a 1920s-themed gathering recently, such as the Taste of Louisville or last weekend’s Downs After Dark? Then you have something to wear to the dinner table, as well. You may want to leave the feather boas at home – even if they are composed of turkeys from Thanksgiving dinners in the past – opting instead for a vintage fur stole or shawl draped over a little black dress with a cloche hat as one proposal. For the gentlemen, a gray cable-knit sweater over a shirt and tie with matching slacks and complementary shoes is a way to go.

Desire something fabulous, but closer to 2012 and more holiday-themed? Give the colors of the season a go: golds, reds, yellows, oranges, browns. Not everything you wear need be pulled from the pile of leaves in your backyard, but imagine a red sweater over a black skirt/tights/kitten-heel combo with a gold necklace and belt, or a chocolate brown mini dress paired with gray woolen leggings and an orange/red/yellow-gemstone piece. Subtle feather earrings could be drafted to complete the ensemble.

Want more ideas? The Pink Door – now at 936 Baxter Ave. next to Lil Cheezers – Nitty Gritty Vintage or Margaret’s Consignment & Collectibles should be on your list. May you have a happy Thanksgiving.
