There are SO many fall festivals this weekend kicking off the start of fall on Monday. Here is a top five for this weekend.

    5. Local Speed – not technically a festival but too good to not mention! The crew over at Local Speed on East Market in Nulu has created some artistic programs geared toward the whole family. This weekend, artists can delve into the art of bead making using flour, salt, and water much like the Native Americans did. The Free Family Art Activity is from 11:30am-3:30pm; it’s free and is a drop-in. The Local Speed satellite shop located at 822 East Market Street is open Fridays from 12pm-8pm and Saturdays from 11am-4pm.

    4. Bugfest and ECO Discovery Day at Bernheim Forest is this Saturday, September 20. Bugfest is the forest’s annual event dedicated to exploring and celebrating all things insects. It is from 9am-4pm. There is no cost to attend, but there is a $5 car fee for weekend admittance.

    3. Happy Halloween Weekend at Holiday World begins this weekend, Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21. Read more about it in this new article about fall fun at the area amusement parks in Kentuckiana and Ohio.

    2. National Jugband Jubilee is Saturday, September 20 from 12pm-11pm. Completely free admission and full of family fun, it will delight everyone in your crew. Hear some authentic jugband music with guests Maria Muldaur and Her Garden of Joy Band, Juggernaut Jug Band, The Jake Leg Stompers, and more. There will be workshops all day, local vendors to stop and chat with, and local food and drinks at a reasonable sale. The event is held at the Brown-Forman Amphitheater at Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville on River Road. It is rain or shine. Visit jugbandjubilee.org for more information.

    1. Gaslight Festival – this is the Gaslight Festival Weekend in Jeffersontown. The weekend kicks off this evening from 7pm-10pm along Watterson Trail and Taylorsville Road in the Historic Gaslight Square District. You can shop from over 250 arts and crafts booths, enjoy live music from Soul Circus, kids can ride carnival rides and jump in bounce houses, and everyone can taste festival-carnival like food from a variety of food stops along the route. The festival continues all weekend: Saturday from 9am-10pm and Sunday from 12pm-6pm. This evening, be sure to stop by Skyview Park for the annual Gaslight Balloon Glow. The event goes from 6pm-9pm and will be full of family-friendly fun, activities, and entertainment. The balloons will light up around dusk this evening (Friday September 19).
