Sunergos Coffee announced on Facebook today that they won America's Best Espresso Grand Championship. According to the post, "this is like winning an Olympic event, Oscar, and a lost Star Wars episode being discovered on a convention day all rolled into one."

The award came from Coffee Fest, an annual coffee and tea festival that's been going on since 1992, "before coffee was hot" (I see what they did there!) and is widely considered to be the coffee industry's top performing show. It's kind of like the Academy Awards of Coffee.

Second place in the competition went to Resilient Coffee Company, and third went to Goshen Coffee. Here's the bracket, proving that Sunergos did indeed beat out some stiff competition. You could even say they stayed on their grind. In fact, you would have to get up pretty early in the morning to beat Sunergos. They really espressed themselves. Okay, I recognize that last one was a latte.

Sunergos was one of the first independent gourmet coffee shops to pop up around Louisville, and is certainly one of the most-beloved. With two locations (the espresso bar at 231 S. 5th St. and the coffee shop and roastery at 2122 S. Preston St.) Sunergos sells some of the best coffee in the 'ville...and apparently, in America.
