I am a budding coffee snob, and Louisville is a great place for my gestating snobbery. Unlike some coffee snobs, though, I adore a good mixed coffee drink, lattes, frappes, you name it, I probably love it. These are my three current favorites, though this is by no means a comprehensive list.
1. Quills Coffee's Veloce
The Veloce is a coffee shot, $2.50, and it comes stacked with sweet vanilla syrup on the bottom, silky white cream, and deep dark espresso. You take like a shot, and it's like seeing your ex boyfriend with a new hideous girlfriend: bitter at first, then so sweet. If you order the Veloce you will spend two minutes drinking it (don't sip, seriously, that will ruin it. Take the shot!) and two hours buzzing with manic energy.
2. Sungergos Coffee's Black and White
Sungergos's Black and White is a blend of chocolate mocha and white chocolate mocha. The Black and White was my first foray into the Louisville coffee scene after eagerly consuming mixed coffee drinks from national coffee chains (not too bad, but not Sungergos!). The black and white is thick and smooth, drinkable ice cream with etched latte art. My favorite way to drink the black and white is frozen and blended, like a milkshake. There is nothing more decadent than a frozen blended black and white in the heat of a Louisville summer.
3. Please & Thanks You's Ganache Latte
Please & Thank You's Ganache Latte is none too sweet, the chocolate flavor is a bittersweet note behind the foamy milk and medium strong espresso. My favorite part of this treat is the pillowy cloud of foam at the top of the latte, and the giant marshmallow meant to be dissolved in the dark depths to add a hint of frothy sweetness. This is a chocolate lover's latte, perfect for sipping with one of P&TY's famous chocolate chip cookies.
If you have a favorite coffee drink, (as long as it hails from a local coffee shop!) feel free to leave it in the comments!
