I live in a Distinctive House. I know because I have legitmate wainscotting. I know because my ceilings could comfortably house a bull elephant. I know because there is a plaque bolted into the stone that says so (more or less). And everybody else seems to know it, too - and by "everybody" here, I am speaking specifically to white people with nice hair cuts who get married and get pictures taken for scrapbooks. Louisville is a city with character, folks, make no mistake; and while it may be a little tough for me to enjoy a gin and soda on my balcony at 3 in the afternoon in my underpants while a wedding party takes "the silly photo" in my front yard (first world problems), I'd rather be distinctly living in Louisville than distinctly stuck in a concrete box.
I know you must agree with me because I am never wrong.
Care to take a tour of distinction without all the traipsing? Join local architect and historian Steve Wiser at Carmichael's Bookstore tomorrow, Saturday, November 10th, at 4pm as he presents his new book illustrating the unique architecture of the region, Distinctive Houses of Louisville.
Featuring the photography of Dan Madryga, Distinctive Houses of Louisville showcases the digs of thirty-two notable residences within the River City region. With attentions given to hot spots like Greystone Gables in New Albany, the Conrad Caldwell House in St. James Court (my 'hood, fool) and Colonial Hall near Cherokee Park, Wiser's book covers a broad range of styles, centuries and tastes that paints a wide variety of Louisville flavor. Copies of Distinctive Houses of Louisville are available at both Carmichael's locations in hardcover for $25, and Mr. Wiser will be donating proceeds from its sale to the Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS).

Here in Distinct Land - oh, I'll just stop - you already know what a pretentious Old Louisville snob I am and you love me for it. You better.
