This year marks the end of a football tenure which has proven itself legendary, as current St. X head football coach Mike Glaser officially steps down.
Glaser has announced that he’ll be leaving the “X,” giving the reigns to former NFL star and St. X alum Will Wolford next year.
It’s clear to see though, that Glaser has set Wolford up with a grand tradition at St. X, before all that though the life-long tiger, Glaser, was a 1970 graduate of the Catholic powerhouse, and was a major factor in the team’s 1969 football state championship at the lineman position.
Following high school Glaser turned his attention squarely to academia, earning a B.A. in English from Bellarmine, and a Masters degree from the University of Louisville.
Currently, Glaser has been coaching the Tigers football team for forty years now, thirty of those as the head coach, working his way up to the head coaching job after working eight years as the offensive line coach.
During his tenure Glaser quickly established himself as an intelligent and solid coach, so much so that he currently ranks as the winningest coach in St. X history and the fourth winningest in the history of all of Kentucky high school football.
In addition, under his tutelage the Tigers won seven KHSAA State Championships, the first coming in 1986 and the latest in 2009. In addition he’s led the team to four runner-up titles between the years of 1991 and 2007. He’s led the team to twenty-eight state playoffs as well.
Prior to this season Glaser’s record has been nothing short of impressive, 328-73, in addition to records in the entire state and school, Glaser ranks first among Louisville coaches beating out Male’s legendary Bob Redman with eleven victories.
All the sports accolades aside, Glaser isn’t planning on leaving St. X anytime soon as he plans to remain a teacher, and will work as the school’s director of activities starting next year.
