In 2008 Keenan Burton became a wide receiver in the NFL when he was drafted to the St. Louis Rams. A dream realized for the young man who had worked so hard to reach that point Burton first came to the attention of local sports media outlets when proving himself a versatile and powerful talent out of Manual High School.

A seeming instant powerhouse at Manual Burton was used almost as a utility player, playing in whatever position the Crimsons needed, including quarterback, safety, running back and receiver.

The high school stand out’s school career probably culminated in 2003 after being named MVP of the Kentucky/Tennessee High School All-Star Game.

So, it came as no surprise that a number of colleges came calling Burton including Louisville, Marshall, Indiana and a collection of others. In the end Burton decided to go up the road to play at Kentucky.

A decision which would prove to be extraordinarily important for the Cats, as after an injury sidelined Burton early he eventually proved his star status, to this day several of his school records still stand as he focused on his abilities as a receiver.

Finally he caused such an impact at Kentucky that he received that nod from the Rams. At St. Louis Burton early proved himself the Rams most valuable receiver, sadly the receiver was sidelined due to an injury in 2009. Eventually that injury led to him being dropped from St. Louis.

Currently, a healthy Burton plays for the Virginia Destroyers in the United Football League, however his future could prove to be a very interesting story.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
