Coming off last Sunday’s Superbowl, the NFL is already gearing up for the 2013 NFL Draft; in fact they’ve been gearing up for it long prior to the Ravens hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

With that in mind, I thought it only customary to take a look at area college possibilities, that are entering this year’s draft; beginning with the University of Louisville.

In recent years the Cards have produced quite a number of pro stand-outs and three athletes are hoping to continue that trend; Center Mario Benavides has been a steady on Louisville’s line during his time in the ‘Ville; and has defined in a lot of ways how to be successful in a Charlie Strong offense. Defensive Back Adrian Bushell has some interest surrounding what he might be able to bring to the pros. The Cards’ final entrant is Offensive Guard Alex Cupper, who like Benavides has been a steady on the Louisville line.

Matching Louisville’s three entrants Kentucky has three of their own; beginning with their own Offensive Guard, Larry Warford. Warford who possesses raw talent that could bode well for him in the draft, next is wide receiver, La’rod King- a tactical athlete, finally scoring an NFL look for the Cats is Defensive Back Martavious Neloms; who has the potential to be a solid mid round selection.

From Western Kentucky, comes Tight End John Doyle who has been a utility player for the Hilltoppers during his time in Bowling Green; Doyle who’s biggest asset is his versatility could wind up in an NFL Jersey by the time the 2013-14 NFL season rolls around. In addition, Western has defensive end Quanterus Smith entering the draft as well as Offensive Guard Adam Smith.

Meanwhile, Eastern Kentucky has three possible future NFL athletes in wide receiver, Tyrone Goard, Running Back Matt Denham, and Offensive Tackle Aaron Adams.

The scouting combine is set to commence in Indianapolis February 20-26, and the draft begins April 25th and goes through the 27th in New York.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
