Hopefully the ninety-degree weather is behind us; I welcome the crisp air of fall with open arms. But saying goodbye to the sweltering, hazy sky also means saying goodbye to the free outdoor music that WFPK's Waterfront Wednesdays bring to Louisville.
The last concert of the season will showcase The Seedy-Seeds, (approximately 6:00PM) an upbeat indie concoction of banjo/accordion/toy-keyboard beats. The Ike Reilly Assassination (approximately 7:30) will follow with bluesy, lyrical pop-songs and Irish-drinking jigs. Check out "Good Work (if you can get it)" on YouTube for a taste; I have a feeling this is the band to see on this last night of music on the river. The finale of the night will be begin at approximately 9:00 PM and feature Great Big Sea, a 17-year-old band that got its start playing Newfoundland folk songs.
As always, outside food and coolers are prohibited, so have an early dinner (the food vendors are mediocre) and bring a few bucks for a beer or two. Pack a blanket and cop a squat on the hill by kiddie-ville. Let the kids climb, swing, and twirl themselves silly on the playground while you listen to some better-than average, free music on hopefully a cool September evening. Say goodbye to summer or hello to fall with all the other music-loving parents in town.
