Memorial Day weekend is over, which means we can officially wear white pants and the kids are officially free for the summer. It's only a matter of days before you start hearing the more-annoying-than-cicada-drone-whine, "I'm boooored. There's nothing to doooooo." The perfect prescription for summertime boredom: register now for a day of fun on June 22 at Camp Hi Ho.

If your kids have been to Camp Hi Ho before, then you know how much fun they will have. If you're new to the East End camp (owned by Oscar winning actress Jennifer Lawrence's family, by the way), visit their website and ask friends about the all-American day of fun that awaits children at Hi Ho. You won't get a negative reaction.

On June 22, Camp Hi Ho is hosting a fundraiser for the Louisville Children's Museum and admission is only $25, including lunch provided by Chick-fil-A and Earth Fare. That's a steal. The goal of the Louisville Children's Museum--to provide a multi-disciplinary play space in Louisville where toddlers to elementary-age kids can learn through exploration--has been supported by area families and businesses, but LCM is still fundraising while searching for their permanent location. Camp Hi Ho will give a portion of proceeds to the LCM effort.

So what will kids do all day at Camp Hi Ho? Parents need to drop children ages 5-13 off at camp (5915 Aiken Road, 40245) at 10:00 am and pick them up at 2:00 pm. Besides lunch, kids will have a chance to fish, swim, have water gun fights, ride horses, slip-n-slide, play on a rope swing, have their face painted, tie dye a T-shirt, cuddle with kittens and puppies, and much, much more.

Visit Louisvillechildrensmuseum.org to register. Parents must download and complete a medical waiver for each child and bring it to camp on June 22. T-shirts (perfect for tie-dying!) are also available on the website for only $10. Questions? Call Camp Hi Ho at 836-HIHO.

    About Anna Frye

After living in Chicago, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Colorado, my husband and I made our (hopefully? probably?) final move back to Louisville, where I was born and raised. Ahhh...it's nice to be home. Now I'm busy making sure my three little ones learn to love the quirks and traditions of their new hometown: Kentucky Derby Festival, no school on Oaks Day, grits and hot browns (not necessarily together), monograms, parks, festivals, and even our seasonal allergies.
