There's this fascinating new book out titled "The Great Louisville Tornado of 1890," and the author, Keven McQueen — a professor at Eastern Kentucky University — will be at Carmichael's Bookstore (2720 Frankfort Ave.) 4 p.m. Saturday to discuss the most devastating tornado in Louisville's history, a thrashing twister that carved a 300-yard path through the city and demolished some 800 buildings. More than 100 people perished in the rubble.
McQueen has written several Kentucky-centric nonfiction books, including one about local legend Muhammad Ali. In "The Great Louisville Tornado," he chronicles the origins of the Ohio River Valley storm that spawned dozens of deadly tornados around the area and takes readers through the rebuilding process in the twister's aftermath. Quick question: If McQeen is such an expert on Louisville weather, can he please explain windstorms, ice storms and floods, too?
