A play for sports fans created in part by sports fans can be seen at U of L this weekend when Plays: A Play goes on.
Plays: A Play will continue on April 19, 20, and 22 at 8 p.m. each night. Shows on April 21 and 22 are to happen at 3 p.m. each day. All performances will go on inside the Thrust Theatre, located on the U of L campus at 2314 S. Floyd Street (same intersection as the McDonaldS).
Tickets for each show are $12 for students, $8 for students, and $8 for senior citizens. Ticket information can be found by calling 502-852-6814 or at louisville.edu/theatrearts. Some tickets may also be available at the door.
Plays: a Play features an alternative sports universe where some of its inhabitants try to save a university from being taken over by a corporate sponsor. Among the characters are corporate ogre Big Sweety, pop star Lady Sugah, and a superhuman Tom Brady-like character named Bradyman.
The production came about after conversations with Louisville-area sports fans and players last spring as part of U of L's performance and community-based arts class. Amy Steiger, leader of the class, directed the production.
