No Balls of Meat: Comedy competition in Louisville highlights female
    Print this page

Louisville comics Janelle Fitzpatrick and Teresa Trimble McCammon return with their fourth annual competition for female comics. This year's competition is sponsored by Bradley's Carpet Outlet in Jeffersonville, Indiana and will be held at the Bard's Town in the Highlands of Louisville, Kentucky. The two comediennes will be switching off to emcee the events.

There will be two qualifying rounds: the first on July 6 and another following on July 13. The finals will be July 26 and will feature a headline act by Donna Watts, who hosts "The Donna Watts Show" on Crescent Hill Radio.. The first place winner walks away with $150; second place will get $100.  Audience members will choose the finalists and winners by circling their three favorites on ballots.

"No Balls of Meat got its name from a pizza order," said Fitzpatrick. "...Teresa McCammon and I called the sausage that comes on pizza 'little balls of meat.' This led to a running joke and then to the appropriate name for an all female comedy contest. Along with $150 for the winner, comes the coveted NO Meatball Trophy."

I'll be taking the stage along with comedians from all over the region. Last year's winner was Ally Breuner, who is wheelchair bound and endeared audiences with lines like "I'm pretty sure God made me crippled, because he knew I'd be unable to resist becoming a stripper." Holly Lynnea took second place and has since hosted Funny Ladies of the Ville 5, an annual female comedy showcase produced by Ed Snyder Black at Saints Skybar.

The Bard's Town is located at 1801 Bardstown Rd, on the corner of Speed Ave. All rounds of the competition begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are just $6. You can visit the Bard's Town menu at their web site and check into the event on Facebook.
