    A huge and very talented field of some of the best collegiate cross country runners in the country marched to the line today for the 13th annual Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic located at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

    Competition was  stacked high in a field that included many ranked teams across Division I, II, and III including Division I ranked #11 Wisconsin and #35 Virginia Tech as well as Division II ranked #2 Southern Indiana. 

    To serve their large field of competitors, the races were splits in Gold, Blue, and Silver with Gold set out to be the faster of the races.

    Silos Too, a freshman from Shorter University, won the Men's Gold race by covering the 8K (5 miles) course with a time of 23:45.77 and Sarah Disanze, a sophomore from University of Wisconsin, won the Women's Gold race by covering the 5K course (3.1 miles) in 16:41.92.

    Local schools including University of Louisville, Bellarmine University, and Spalding University competed today.

    As a team, Louisville's guys finished 6th with their top finisher, junior Ernest Kibet, coming in 3rd.UofL women came in 11th with their top finisher, freshman Katie Schwartz, coming in 38th.

    Senior Emily Frith led the Bellarmine Knights squads today in the Women's Gold race by breaking her own school record. It's now set at 17:17.17. The Bellarmine men's and women's teams took part in the Blue races and finished 17th and 15th respectively.

    Spalding's men finished 5th led by junior Nathan Mark and the women's squad took 29th led by junior Casey Richardson.

    This December 9 E.P Tom Sawyer State Park will host the Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championships.
