Moonshine University Offers Bourbon Making Classes

Moonshine University is still fairly new to Louisville, but they offer some pretty amazing classes.  If you’ve ever wanted to experience the entire bourbon making process, from mash to bottling, you can do it here.  They also offer shorter classes for enthusiasts of a wide variety of topics.

The next Moonshine University bourbon-making class will take place July 11.  It will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m., and continental breakfast and lunch is included in the $395 tuition.  This will include a full, hands-on, start-to-finish spirit making experience.  Students will mill grains, make mash, and distill spirits.  This is a chance to get up close and personal with the process of making distilled spirits in a way that isn't possible on a distillery tour.  As an added bonus, you get to sample your distillate at the end of the day.

“For those wanting a unique, hands-on distilling experience, roll up your sleeves and spend a day in our distillery as we show you the ins and outs of making spirits. From mashing to making the cuts, we will explore time-honored traditions, science, and modern methods of distilling,” according to the website.

Moonshine University also offers a 5-day Distiller’s Course, but the July 28-August 1 course is already sold out.  The next available date for the five day distiller’s course will be November 3-7, and at the rate they've been going, you had better buy your tickets now if you’d like to attend.

There will also be an enthusiast class with Albert Schmid, author of The Kentucky Bourbon Cookbook, on August 21 from 6-8 p.m.  Tickets for this event are $39, and it is sure to be a fun and entertaining evening.
