For my first taste of ZaZoo’s ‘Vintage Showcase’, it is obvious that Hunter Embry has created an environment that caters both to the musicians and the fans. The place was buzzing hours before Moon Taxi took over with warm-up acts, I was able to catch, The Treez and Funny Bones.
From the moment Moon Taxi took the stage the packed house was ready for the ride. Prior to their arrival, the band was focused and determined to give their fans the best possible outing they could have possibly booked. The arrangements were seamless, harmonies on point, and Moon Taxi embarked all passengers on a journey that could not have been any more superb.
Interjecting the new ‘Superstitious’ with tracks off the latest Cabaret proved to be just the recipe for the evening’s success. Their attempt to keep the vibe intimate, yet raucous, led to jubilation from their faithfuls and made fans out of any newcomer lucky enough to be there. If you didn’t get on board this time around, there are other chances on their upcoming tour. Should you not have let yourself explore this bunch yet, you are doing your musical tastes an injustice. Terndrup’s vocals are reminiscent of Amos Lee like range with the band entering territory that combines the likes of My Morning Jacket mixed with the grooves and shakeups of an early G-Funk. Wondrous all around and well done Moon Taxi…until the next time
