Mitch Burrow is a special kind of funny. The kind of funny that only comes from a mixed up, mishmash life full of experience and places.
He grew up in the backwoods. Raised off an old dirt road in Middle of Nowhere, Georgia. He was brought up a southern gentlemen, in a home that wasn’t always the most fortunate – but was filled with loving supportive family. At 18 years old, Mitch packed up his bags and joined the Marine Corps, a decision which led the young man living in Okinawa, Japan for several years.
I know, right? It’s already starting to sound like a Nicholas Sparks novel.
He was then sent to Iraq, where as a Marine he fought side by side with America’s best to defend our country. It’s hero’s work, and it’s always under appreciated.
After Burrow left the military he found himself living in Southern California. There he worked and honed the art of stand-up comedy. Allowing the culmination of all of his experiences to come together into a single, independent, middle-of-the-road voice that echoes with wisdom and sense. After a while, though, Californians were too weird and they were making Burrow soft – so as he had many times before, he packed up and moved again.
This time he landed in the one place he’d found that fit him perfectly…Seattle, Washington. In the Pacific Northwest, among the rain and grunge rock hold-outs, Burrow has become one of the most beloved comedians in the city; when he’s not out on the road for weeks at a time, that is.
Mitch Burrow opens in Louisville tonight at Laughing Derby. He will be there all weekend, May 28th-30th. The show times vary (with two shows Friday and Saturday), and tickets are still available from $12-$15.
