Melissa Etheridge invades the Louisville Palace this week as part of her United States tour behind her new album 4th Street Feeling.  The 51-year-old Midwestern roots rocker kicks off her show Tuesday night, perfectly in line with the 4th Street venue in downtown Louisville.  Etheridge’s 12th studio release is said to be a reflection of her past, themed around emotions including betrayal, one she seems to enjoy writing about.

4th Street Feeling, an album that takes a stroll back to Etheridge's time spent in Leavenworth, Kansas as a child features songs such as “Rock and Roll Me,” a 12/8 flirtatious blues-eque song about revisiting love as well as “Shadow of a Black Crow,” a darker stripped down tune about the claw marks that life leaves behind.  The opening track “Kansas City” shows exactly where the album is going, back to the earlier times of childhood.  Melissa does claim some of the songs are throwbacks to her favorite artists growing up as the soul-blues track “Be Real,” one of the more fun songs on the album, is claimed to be a nod to the funky sultriness of Chaka Khan and Rufus.

Etheridge, known for songs such as “Bring Me Some Water” and “Come to My Window,” bust onto the scene after dropping out of Berklee School of Music in Boston and moving to California, where she was discovered.  Since then she has been an outspoken advocate for gay rights, coming out in 1993 and more recently marijuana legalization.

Melissa Etheridge appears at the Louisville Palace located at 625 S. 4th Street.  The show kicks off at 8 p.m.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased by contacting the Louisville Palace at 502-583-4555.
