“I’ve been to Louisville at least a half dozen times…but they’re all a little hazy!”  Marc Broussard says with a laugh as big as the bayou.  When he speaks it’s Harry Connick, Jr. that you hear.  As they both have the same cadence, and inflection.  When he plays and sings it’s a bluesy Cajun rock that one critic called “a Motown stomp,  Otis Redding from an alternate universe.”

Marc was in town Friday night for Pinktober at the Hard Rock Café.  The fundraiser show for Susan G.  Komen Foundation also featured V.V. Brown and The Cab.

Broussard laughs easy, talks slowly and it consumed with playing with his new band.  “I am so excited to play in Louisville, this CD…these guys that are in my band now, we have really hit a rhythm.”  And to Marc Broussard, that feeling and rhythm is everything. He performance seemed effortless and packed more emotion into 6 songs than most concerts do in 2 hours.

On Wednesday, before he got to town I had a chance to talk with him as he got his kids (9,6,and 4) ready for school

I love the songs on the CD [Marc Broussard], tell me about putting that together?
It’s so long ago.  It was such a long process to put this record out.  We had to do a lot of different things to get this record right, in the eyes of a lot of people.  I am very proud of some of these songs.  Songs like (Let me do it over) or (Our Big Mistake), (Eye on the Prize), these songs would have never come to light without the opportunity I’ve been given with Atlantic Records.

The new single (Cruel) is getting lots of attention, are you going to be one of those 15 year overnight success stories?
Oh I have no idea!  I never predict the future because I inevitably look like a fool doing it!

I hear you love to play the ponies, ever been to Churchill Downs?
I do love the ponies, and no I haven’t had the pleasure.  I have this friend who always is promising to take me, and you know it’s always better to go with a friend, who has a friend, who knows a guy…but I do love horse racing, Sport of Kings ya know

    Bourbon or Vodka?
    Bourbon, no question

(with the Kids in the background) If I got into your car right now, what’s in the CD player?
Well, on the way to school in the mornings the Kids love to listen to [Off the Wall] or [Thriller] from Michael Jackson.  Then for me a little Anders Osborne or my friend’s band,  Baby B – and throw in some Earth, wind and Fire.  I like to keep it interesting.

I am looking forward to  your set (tonight).
I can’t wait to land, we’re going to rock the house…the band is so stinky and so good.  We’re going to try to put on a show that everyone is going to enjoy.

To use his words, he was...stinky and so good.
