Coming from a family that has fought, won, and unfortunately lost battles with breast cancer, I was very excited to attend Pinktober last weekend. 102.3 The Max hosted this concert to honor the fighters and survivors of breast cancer and to raise money for the Louisville chapter of the Susan G. Komen foundation.
The first band to perform was American Authors. With a fresh new sound and a lead singer who was continually referred to as "easy on the eyes" by the ladies from The Max, I'm sure you'll be hearing more of them in weeks to come. Their energetic song "Believer" has all the qualities of a top 40 song, and the rest of the songs from their EP did not disappoint.
The second act was none other than Five for Fighting himself,
John Ondrasik
. He began with "100 Years," ended with "Superman," and played everyone's favorite piano-based pop-rock hits in between. By far my favorite performer of the night, I highly recommend seeing Five for Fighting the next time he comes to Louisville.
Walk off the Earth provided the final performance of the night, and proved to be much more than a good cover band with entertaining YouTube videos. Their song "Red Hands" confirmed that they have talent beyond what you see on YouTube, but their cover of "Royals" also showcased their talent in making other artists' songs work for them.
In between each act, items such as diamond bracelets, tickets to local museums and plays, and guitars were auctioned off to benefit breast cancer research. Decked out in pink balloons, the Hard Rock Cafe was packed with people who were obviously there for more than just music as they willingly bid hundreds of dollars on the goodies.
Though the wait in between bands was long and the food was expensive, seeing radio personality George Lindsey's tattooed head was definitely worth it!
