Chanson Calhoun is Louisville’s R&B prodigy. Since last year, she has been making a name for herself with her smooth, soulful voice and delightfully catchy original songs. Her talent has been in high demand for several of Louisville’s concerts and events, like the Zach Longoria Project’s R&B showcase at Headliners last month. But if you haven’t caught one of her performances yet, don’t worry. The talented singer and song-writer has lots more in store for her fans this summer. If you haven’t heard of Chanson Calhoun yet, brace yourself.

Earlier this year, Calhoun competed in and won the first round of the Hard Rock Café’s world-wide talent competition, Hard Rock Rising. The first round of this competition is held locally in several different cities across the globe and is designed to find the most talented artists of each city. As the winner, she then went on to compete in and win the second round, which featured the first round winners of the region.

The third round of Hard Rock Rising is based on the artists’ online presence. From the 13,000 contestants, judges chose only six finalists based on their success as a local artist through their Youtube performances and material on ReverbNation. These finalists won a trip to Barcelona, Spain to compete in the final round. The winner of the final round will win the opportunity to perform for a stadium of 60,000 people, along with a record deal. And on July 23rd, Chanson Calhoun will be boarding her flight to Spain to compete as one of the top six finalists.

The other five finalists selected to compete in the final round are all bands from Japan, Germany, Buenos Aires, New York, and Minneapolis. Chanson Calhoun is the only R&B artist, and the only one from Louisville. So yeah, it’s kind of a big deal.

Now of course most of us can’t make it to Spain for the third round of Hard Rock Rising, but you can still catch Chanson Calhoun at her performance at the Hard Rock Café on Thursday, May 28 at 7pm. Single tickets are available for $5 and $15 each. The $15 tickets include entry to the show along with the Hard Rock Café’s full-service soul food dinner buffet. You can purchase tickets at the door and also online here.
