In the sports world, March means one thing: basketball. And be it men’s or women’s, you can almost invariably find hoops on TV or radio at any given time.
As such, there’s actually been a great deal of studies that have concluded that in office places around the country there is reduced productivity in this month. I could have saved them a lot of grant money and just gone ahead and told them that but in any case the science world is a strange mistress, almost as strange as basketball.
However, I felt it only right to cover the Division II basketball tournament that is on the way, and actually plays their quarter-final and semi-final games here in Louisville March 28th and 30th at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
I am always a little disappointed in the fact that the Division II coverage is always very limited locally yet the city has an annual favorite in the tournament, Bellarmine University who last won it all in 2011.
In fact regional schools lead the tournament in terms of championship victories since its beginning in 1957, leading the pack with eight titles is Owensboro’s Kentucky Wesleyan for instance.
The Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan are followed by Evansville who has five championships in the tournament.
Following early rounds, this year’s title will be decided in the Philips Arena in Atlanta, April 7th.
TV wise, the games will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network throughout the tournament, and the championship game will be broadcast on CBS.
