There’s a battle going on tonight in the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. A battle that reverberates to right here in Louisville, that is the Division II men’s elite eight basketball tournament, where the Bellarmine Knights, who were number two nationally prior to the tournament, will take on Midwestern State, who’s ranked number six in the bracket. Who recently defeated Central Oklahoma in the South Central Region to arrive in the game.

The two will be fighting for their place in the final four, also in Springfield. The Knights, who have been a strong force in Division II men’s basketball for the past couple of years under the tutelage of Coach Davenport reach the game today which tips off at noon after defeating (8) Indianapolis, (4) Northern Kentucky, and (6) Ferris State in Louisville last Tuesday in front of a sold out Knights Hall; 85-66.

The Knights’ one-two punch of lead scorers, Luke Prague and Chris Dowe was just enough to give BU a victory over the Ferris State Bulldogs. With the added “W” Bellarmine’s record improved to 30 and 2 in the season.
Any fans that want text updates on the team make sure to text Elite8 to 511511 for instant info. A live webcast of the games will be available to view on NCAA.com, plus here locally the game will be broadcast on ESPN 680-AM radio and will be simulcast on bellarmineradio.com.

As of the last few years the Knights have proven themselves a force to be reckoned with in Division II basketball, this is after years of struggling. The knights have come on strong producing talent the past couple of years that have gone on to play basketball in professional leagues around the world. Many credit Coach Davenport with the turn-around, a former assistant coach with Rick Pitino at UofL, Davenport has been looking for his first NCAA championship for the past few years.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
