The gap that separates national and local music should be looked upon more so as a giant canyon. There are few and far between who succeed in crawling out to bridge the two together, but The Faces Concert Series that kicks off this evening at The Louisville Palace has created an arch of hope for Louisville's young talented musicians. For the first time ever, people will be able to enjoy the majestic art work of The Palace's Faces Lobby while being entertained by some of the biggest names in Louisville's local music scene.

There are many objectives behind The Faces Concert Series, but for those involved, the main idea is aimed at bringing Louisville’s finest under the same roof as both local and national talent scouts.  The combination of local music heavy hitters that have collaborated to pull the series off is straight from a local artist’s networking dream. The Palace’s marketing director, Sydney O’Bryan said, “so far we’ve reached out to several Louisville based record labels including Sona Blast, Karate Body, and Cul De Sac Kings to participate; perhaps for a cd release or merely just to gain momentum for their artists.  We’ve received a great response so far. ”  The short term focus has sights on providing an intimate evening of Rockin’ local music while the long term idea fixes on seeing an increase in the need for more local artists on higher scale events.  O’Bryan explains, “The main objective of course is to support our flourishing local music scene! Everyone in the city has seen their favorite nationally touring artist or performer here in the theater, and we feel it’s high time we open our doors to the local boys and girls to rock out as well!”

The reputation of The Palace is obviously globally known. Most everyone in the city knows that, but what may get over looked is just how significant The Faces Series is for local musicians. Giving artists a chance to attach their name alongside the notoriety of a great venue has various effects.  In terms of an artist building a strong musical resume, playing at The Palace has the potential of opening doors with both national events in house of The Palace as well as opportunities on other forefronts.  O’Bryan further mentions, “another idea is to gain the exposure for local performers in hopes that nationally touring acts will reach out for local support when they perform here at the palace - wouldn’t it be amazing to see some of your Louisville favorites open for the likes of ZZ Top, Fiona Apple, B.B. King, etc… but to make the series successful, we will need support from all of our local music community.”

The Faces @ The Palace Concert Series launches off this evening with The Tune Smiths, She Might Bite, and DJ Matt Anthony. It will be broadcasted live on 91.9 WFPK from 9pm-12am; $10 admission, first 100ppl through the door will be entered to win a pair of tickets to see Fiona Apple (doors @ 8pm).
