Metro Louisville Animal Services is bringing in the dogs to Louisville with many doggie events. A number of events are being held in April including the ever exciting World Championship Disc Dog Qualifier, The Average Mutt Competition, and The Happy Tail Hour. These events are for the whole family, including your pets, to come down to the Waterfront Park to enjoy.
On April 14 and 15 Louisville Metro Animal Services, along with Derby City Disc Dogs, kicks off events with the exciting River for the World Championship Disc Dog Qualifier. This exciting event showcases amazing canine athletes as they fly in the air, like Michel Jordan catching air in a basketball dunk, as they catch Frisbees in mid-air with human partners, each with a style of their own. Food and animal vendors will be on site and there will also be many interactive events and competitions for beginners and traditional owners to make this an exciting weekend. This event happens at the Riverfront Champions Park 10 am - 5 pm.
Also happening on the weekend of April 14 and 15, along with the World Championship Disc Dog Qualifier, is the Average Mutt Competition. Your dog does not have to be a national superstar to compete, thus the name of the competition. Join Derby City Disc Dogs and Metro Animal Services to register you and your dog at 11:00 am on the day of each event. Each event is $5 and $10 for multiple categories. Unlimited spots are available. The following categories for the Average Mutt competition are as follows:
Saturday, April 14 starting at 12 pm
1. Best Costume
2. Most Distinctive Trick
3. Best Groomed
Sunday, April 15 starting at 12 pm
1. Look Alike Contest
2. Most Unique Mutt
3. Farthest Disc Catch
On Monday, April 30, as part of the Kentucky Derby Festival, Metro Animal Services and the Louisville Waterfront Development Corporation hosts the Happy Tail Hour, with Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville event. This event is pet friendly and includes live music, games, the SPOT mobile adoption vehicle, and wonderful adoptable pets. This event happens on the Louisville Waterfront Park 5 pm - 9 pm.
