I had the chance to interview Jon Matar about his new Louisville restaurant app for smart phones. WhyWait is a free app and offers a variety of information for users including happy hours, events, deals and restaurant information.
1. What sets 'WhyWait' apart from other food and restaurant apps?
WhyWait is different from other restaurant apps because WhyWait gives restaurants control over the content. A restaurant can sign up and login to our website to update the deals, add events to the calendar, put in happy hours, pictures, and update their menu. They have control and can update the content as often as they want. It is as easy as updating a Facebook page or any online account.
One of the main differences is the Push Notifications. If a user adds a restaurant to their favorites, that restaurant can send a push notification to that person. We are one of the first apps to give control of the push notification to independent businesses. If a user is tired of receiving a push notification from a restaurant, they can easily remove that restaurant from their favorites. We give users control over who they want push notifications from and restaurants the power to send those push notifications.
2. How does the app work with Facebook and Twitter?
The app allows restaurants to link to their Twitter and Facebook page so a user looking at a restaurant can easily access that restaurants FB/Twitter page with one click to see what they are posting. A user can also Share that they are at a restaurant through Twitter/foursquare/Facebook by hitting the share button on the bottom right hand corner of a restaurants profile page. We have gathered feedback from restaurants and users and are developing more ways in which we can integrate our app with these social media sites.
3. Can local businesses contact you to be included in the app? How does that process work?
Any restaurant can go to our website (www.whywaittheapp.com) and sign up for a 30 day free trial and start posting deals/happy hours/events and sending push notifications out right away. They instantly get control over their profile. We can show these restaurants reporting metrics on how many people are looking at their profile/ads and how many people have added their restaurant to their list of favorites and let them decide if they see value in the product. We also can include 3rd party ads/events and an interested party can just email us at support@whywaittheapp.com to discuss this. One cool thing about our ads is that a restaurant’s ad takes a user right to that restaurants profile page when clicked.
