Monday (February 27) marks the celebratory release party of the 5th Edition of the LOOK Gallery Guide. The award-winning guide lists art galleries and museums that are local to the Louisville and Southern Indiana areas. A release party will be at Gallery M of Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center from 6 to 8 p.m. Mellwood Arts and Entertainment center is also home to an array of galleries, small restaurants, and offices in addition to the large event rooms for rental.
The party will be free to attend; free refreshments and parking will also be included. Attendees will also enjoy a cash bar for adult beverages. The party will also host an art show and sale with art from all 33 of the participating galleries. The proceeds will be split between the galleries, the LOOK Consortium, and the artists. Entertainment will be provided by Tristen Brooke and Son of the Widow. The guide is printed every other year and includes listings, photos, and information about the 33 galleries that are associated with the LOOK consortium. You can find some of the 20,000 copies at the airport, visitors bureau, member galleries, and at coffee shops around town. Elizabeth Perry Spalding of 21 Skye Design has been doing the graphics and layout of the guide for ten years, winning the guide an award from the Louisville Graphic Design Association (LGDA).
LOOK consortium consists of local art and gift galleries, which has grown to include over 35 museums and galleries
from Southern Indiana and the Greater Louisville area. Some of the LOOK galleries and museums include Glassworks, Edenside Gallery, 21c Museum, Speed Art Museum, and the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center. Look was founded over 25 years ago "to promote awareness, growth and success of the visual arts." They also provide education of how a gallery or museum operates and have a special interest in gathering young art collectors, introducing them to the Louisville arts scene.
