Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft is all a buzz today. They had a grand reopening of their space, which they call Maker Space, in their museum space in downtown Louisville. KMAC (for short!) is located near Kentucky Science Center, along Museum Row on Main Street. This new space that was opened today is a creative art space on the first floor of the museum. They had a red ribbon cutting ceremony, complete with cake and a visit from students from Trunnell Elementary.

There are new interactive stations throughout MakerSpace now, which invite families, parents, children, etc. to really delve into their art experience and use their creativity in ways that they may not otherwise. These interactive stations include a wonder wall, a make your mark chalkboard wall, tool tales space to study what tools artists use, a tabletop art space, a what do you see space that will have touchable art to examine, a community craft corner, a media matrix which houses a library of art books and videos, as well as much more to explore. This new space welcomes you and your families, and beckons you to explore downtown with your children and all there is to do along Museum Row. KMAC has always offered great family programming with projects and workshops designed to really get crafty and artsy. These workshops have been typically offered on Sundays to accommodate busy families. They also offer wonderful day and week-long camps throughout the year.

The MakerSpace will also be the location for School’s Out drop-in art workshops and the new MAKE THIS workshops which are designed as DIY-type projects geared for and appealing to teens 14+. KMAC is the newest and coolest place to be if you have that artsy side of you!

There is also a special reception this evening. The Scholastic Art Awards Opening Reception will be held from 5pm-8pm Friday, February 7 on the 3rd floor gallery. It’s coinciding with the Republic Bank First Friday Trolley Hop in downtown Louisville.

KMAC is part of the $5 February special admission on Museum Row. Learn more about it here.
