It’s that time of year again - the Summer Used Book Sale at ! If you haven’t been to a Locust Grove book sale yet, then this weekend is a great time to start. Starting Friday, August 22nd from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., you’ll have an opportunity to get your hands on one of the most impressive collection of used books in town.
Locust Grove takes donations of used books from the public throughout the year, and the sale is comprised entirely of those books. “We pretty much take donations any time the visitor’s center is open,” says Mary Beth Williams, Locust Grove’s Program Director. All of the proceeds from the sale go to fund Locust Grove’s many educational programs, which they run throughout the year.
The educational programs at Locust Grove are a great way to teach young people about the history of Louisville and the United States in general - students get to see examples of cooking in the early 1800’s, as well as woodworking and other trades of the era. They also get to tour the house and learn all about some of the most important figures in Louisville’s history - when you think about it, buying books from the sale is like trading learning for learning.
The runs Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Most paperback books are a dollar, and hardcovers are mostly $2. There is a selection of antique and collectors books which are priced individually, and on Sunday everything is half off - or you can fill a bag for $10!
