Bargain Books: Locust Grove hosts its 8th annual Used Book Sale this weekend

Although we are still technically in the throes of “Winter”, any seasoned Louisvillian knows that March = Spring for our quiet life in the valley.  Today is March, therefore, Today = Spring.  Many of us will quickly be turning out our closets after our mild Winter hibernation and loading up the family vehicle with some happy bags of donate-able clutter.  I will be among these fancy Goodwill frolickers with one marked exception: booooooks.  While some may be clearing out old sweaters and finally parting ways with Auntie Maude’s decorative plate collection, I will be de-knick-knacking my shelf space for the sole purpose of filling them with my favorite spine-ed friends.  It’s time for another – the 8th annual, in fact – Locust Grove Used Book Sale.  Score!

Kicking off with a Members Only preview tonight (tonight being March 1) from 5 to 7:30pm, Historic Locust Grove will once again host its used book bounty for the public this weekend Friday through Sunday, March 2nd through 4th from 10am to 4:30pm.  With over 14,000 volumes ripe for the picking at prices considerably less than that finicky eReader thing, the Locust Grove Book Sale should make your To Do list (plus, I’ll be there and I’m pretty neat).

Prices begin at $1 for paperbacks and $2 for most hardcovers – but remember to bring your greenbacks, friends.  The bounty of used, antiquarian and new books promises a myriad of flavors to explore, with categories including history, biography, mysteries, reference, science fiction, travel, cookbooks, children’s, spirituality, Kentucky interest, romance, crafts as well as typical fiction favorites.  As always, a special selection of illustrated books, rare book and sets will also be available for the collectors and the curious and will be individually priced.

And let us not forget to honor Sunday’s traditional day-o’-rest with the crème-de-la-crème:  all books will be half-priced on Sunday or sold by the bag (swag!), a perfect excuse to sling your next reads over your shoulder with greedy gusto.  It’s the cherry on top.  Donations in good condition are still being accepted, so clear out your shelves, fill them up again and enjoy an early Spring read.

Historic Locust Grove is located at 561 Blankenbaker Lane.  For more information call (502)897-9845 or visit the Locust Grove website.

Those too eager to wait until tomorrow and who might be a tad bit pouty about missing the Members Only Preview tonight are graciously allowed to purchase memberships at the door.

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
