Record Store Day (RSD) was conceived in 2007 and is now an international event to celebrate independent, locally owned record stores, which to many people are centers of all sorts of culture. For a better description, I'll turn to the official Record Store Day bio:

"This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco on April 19, 2008 and Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April."

Louisville has an abundance of records stores that will be participating in Record Store Day this Saturday. Here are the details on some of the celebrations:

    Guestroom Records (1806 Frankfort Avenue)

Guestroom Records will be opening at 9 a.m. They ask that a line form towards Pope Street and no one hold spaces in the line. They will allow people inside the store 5 people at a time in 3-5 minute intervals. Guestroom will have 90% of the RSD releases and additionally, all non-RSD releases will be 10% off. Also, they will be hosting all-day DJ sets from some of Louisville's finest including Jonathan Glen Wood, JaLin Roze, Night Visions Radio, and members of Louisville Outskirts Festival and White Reaper.

Astro Black Records (1000 E Oak St)

This party actually takes places in Astro Black as well as in Kaiju, a dive bar next door. According to the event poster, festivities last from 2-8 p.m. and include performances from Vadebomb, Buck Gooter, Joan Shelley, Hurricanes of love, Shedding, PRMTV STR, Insect Policy, and Beat Awfuls. Food trucks will be on hand.

Modern Cult Records (2001 Frankfort Avenue)

To celebrate RSD, Modern Cult will be hosting a free, all ages, BYOB show starting at 7 p.m. featuring New Bravado, The Wrists, Korea 3, and Animal Mother. Also, a cook out!

Better Days Records (1765 Bardstown Road)

Better Days has order many, if not what will likely feel like all, RSD exclusive releases. They will open at 8:00 a.m. will a line forming down the block towards the fire station. From personal experience, RSD at Better Days is the most adrenaline-filled because most of the releases are behind the counter and patrons are yelling at the employees to grab the release. It's like going for an Xbox on Black Friday.
