We made it, folks. Not just past the presumed end of the world (anyone else wonder what Daniel Pinchbeck has been up to for the past week?), but also past Christmas. It didn't feel terribly Christmas-y to me. It's been a wild year, especially these last couple of months, and all I really saw was harried shoppers rushing at the last minute to get obligatory gifts for loved ones. Gift-giving can be tricky. I've always struggled to find the perfect gift for my former significant other, whereas she was always quite skilled at finding something fantastic for me.
This is all very relevant to the topic at hand. Long-time readers may remember almost a year ago when I spent a day on the set of The Gift
, a locally-produced short film by Travis Myles.
tells the story of Alan (Douglas Sorenson), who is out with his friend Bill (Chuck Beatty) in an attempt to find the perfect gift for his partner, James (Brent Gettelfinger). James has always managed to out-gift Alan, and Alan is determined to turn the tables this year. On his quest, he comes to learn some important lessons about life, love, and what the greatest gift truly is.
Myles and his production company, Brand New Gay Productions, are very proud to announce the acceptance of
The Gift
into the upcoming Out in the Desert Film Festival, held in Tucson, Arizona, to celebrate the best in independent LGBT film. The festival will run from January 23-27.
In the meantime, the team at Brand New Gay Productions are currently in pre-production for their next short:
, whose plot is described thus: “Accidentally stuck in a deep freeze, two guys, one straight and one gay, keep warm with hot talk about their lives and loves. What they each learn is that their lives are very similar in spite of their different sexual orientations.”
