Ladies and gentlemen, we have once again reached that time; throughout the year, the Louisville Film Society, in their beautifully refurbished church, provides the city with unique and interesting cinematic offerings, trying to spread the Good Word of film. Every year they present their signature event – the Flyover Film Festival – and that is what we are here to talk about today.
The festival features around fifteen films and events, including some live musical performances, full of films you won’t get the chance to see on a big screen any other time here in Louisville, many of them with filmmakers in attendance. There are films presented from all around, but there are several with specific local connections; for example:
+The world premiere of The Potter’s Field, a documentary about a group of high school students here in Louisville who take it upon themselves to perform funeral services for deceased homeless people, a demographic whose remains don’t often receive the same respect after death as most people.
+Gatewood, a documentary about local political celebrity Gatewood Galbraith, well-known for his pro-marijuana stance, who passed away last year having never achieved public office.
+Robocop: As Performed by Ultra Pulverize; the local trip-hop trio has fashioned a new soundtrack for Paul Verhoeven’s cult classic and they will perform it live.
The Flyover Film Festival takes place this week, from June 12 to June 16. Most films will be shown at the Clifton Center, located at 2117 Payne Street. Admission is free for Louisville Film Society Members; festival passes are available for $50, $40 for students, or individual events are $12.
