    Bit to Do

Lamb Chop and Mallory are bringing their antics to Louisville
    Print this page

The beloved “celebrity sock puppet” Lamb Chop has outlived many of her puppet contemporaries since her birth in 1957 – the Muppet Show, for instance, is of blessed memory – and continues to delight audiences of children with her innocent antics. Though her original puppeteer, Shari Lewis, passed away in 1998, Lewis’s daughter Mallory has performed with the playful ewe all over the world in the years since. The two of them will be in Louisville this weekend to participate in the Memorial Day festivities and entertain local fans and families.

On Friday, May 25, Lamb Chop and Mallory will be making their first stop at 1 p.m. at the Kosair Children’s Hospital, and will drop into the Home of the Innocents at 2 p.m the following day. They will be accompanied by local philanthropist and car dealer extraordinaire Sam Swope as they get themselves into and find themselves out of all kinds of trouble. Lamb Chop puppets will also be handed out to patients, and photos may be taken with the trio by the general public in the main lobbies of both locations.

On Sunday, May 27, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the BentStar Project will be hosting its Memorial Weekend Bash and Auction at the Marcus Lindsey, sponsored by the Sam Swope Auto Group, and Lamb Chop and Mallory will be on the scene to light up the celebration. Also performing will be hometown hero and musician Patrick Henry Hughes and a variety of dazzling street performers, and World War II Jeep and ambulance memorabilia will be on display to honor our nation’s rich military history. A silent auction will feature a Swope 2012 Fiat 500, and Kentucky Ale and Helwig wines and appetizers will be served throughout. Be sure to swing by and get your photo snapped with the lovely Lamb Chop before she and her pal Mallory are off on another adventure.

The BentStar Project is an organization that works to locate and bring home U.S. POW/MIAs and ensure that POW/MIA expeditions will be fully documented and will continue unencumbered. It will be hosting its Memorial Weekend Bash and Auction at the Marcus Lindsey, located at 801 E. Main Street. Admission is free. Kosair Children’s Hospital is located at 231 E. Chestnut Street; Home of the Innocents is at 1100 E. Market Street. Contact Marjorie Dunn with any questions or comments at (502)-494-6565, or at marjoriedunn07@gmail.com.

    About Karen Ellestad

When I was seven and my brother was eight, we both wrote to 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?' for a free t-shirt. Two weeks later his arrived in the mail, signed by Carmen Sandiego herself, accompanied by an autographed picture of the cast, an official membership to the 'Gumshoe Club,' and a Rockapella casette tape. I got a postcard.
