If Donny and Marie were a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll, Kelsey and Gabe Kopecky are a little bit Baroque and a little bit indie rock. These siblings' harmonies are at the heart of The Kopecky Family Band who will play The Rudyard Kipling this Thursday August 19th.

The Nashville-based Kopecky Family Band is touring in support of their EP The Disaster, a seven-song release that comfortably meshes classical music sensibilities with a nod to bands like Stars and The Most Serene Republic . Paste Magazine has described them as a new wave Arcade Fire. Not bad, but the sound is more like a love triangle between Colin Meloy, Leslie Fiest, and Roy Wood.

This classically trained family whose sound includes strings and brass instrumentation writes focused songs that are not lost in the intricacy of the arrangements. But the Kopecky clan's sound is anything but busy. The instrumentation and production are clear and melodic. A homemade video of them performing the EP's opener God & Me on the corner of Bardstown Road and Eastern Parkway in Louisville is testament to the fresh sound the band has even in a stripped down environment.

The seven piece band - yes they are really a family - performed at this year's SXSW Festival and will perform during Next Big Nashville music conference in September. So catch them at the Rud before they start playing the bigger venues.

The show begins at 9:30. For shows after 9:00 P.M., The Rud requires persons under 21 to bring a parent of someone in the group and must make arrangements in advance so that there can be no alcoholic beverages served or suspected.
