Every year, the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) is a haven to hundreds of dogs and cats, and they try their best to find a forever home for each furry inhabitant. On Saturday, May 16th, KHS will be hosting their 21st annual Waggin’ Trail 5K at Waterfront Park on the Big Four Lawn to raise money towards the upkeep of all the cats and dogs they take in. KHS states that just $50 will provide “one day’s worth of food and water to 25 pets in our care.” This year, KHS is aiming to raise a total of over $100,000! They have already raised $6,034 according to their website’s counter and still with plenty of time to reach their goal.
The Waggin’ Trail consists of a pleasant walk through Waterfront Park with your furry companion, enjoying the scenery and making new friends along the way. The walk will begin at 10:00a.m. as well as the opening of vendor booths and children activities. Throughout the day, there will be food vendors, games, live music featuring Ghost Holler, and KHS behavior demonstrations along with an overview of their offered programs. If you’re on the lookout for a new addition to your family, KHS will be bringing several of their adoptable pets along as well. This day of festivities will run to 2:00p.m., and there is bound to be something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
Registration is already open and will also be available the day of the event, opening at 9:00a.m. There is a $25 registration fee that goes straight to your personal fundraising page, and this page may be used to gather pledges for donations. There are a variety of prizes depending on the amount of money you raise such as KHS Waggin’ Trails t-shirts and Paws for Life Pet Safety Lights. Also, if you sign up before March 16th, you'll receive a KHS bandanna. For more information on the event and about KHS, follow the links below.
