Friday night, the new neighborhood dive bar and music venue, Kaiju, was packed for the local line-up featuring Slow Down Johnny, Powell, and The Thumps. The bar was full, pool tables were claimed and the atmosphere totally conducive for a great local show. The venue space is separated by a short hallway from the bar to keep the music contained and unaffiliated with bar chatter. Aside from the venue space the bar offers, amongst the specialty cocktails and wine, an extensive craft bottle and rotating draft listm, including local brewers like Against the Grain.
Kaiju opened in early December after Dragon King’s Daughter’s owner, Toki Masubuchi, bought what was Lisa’s Oak Street Lounge, cleaned it up and added a fresh layer of paint, which includes a giant monster mural in the venue space. The newness of Kaiju allows for an undefined crowd and excitement for what’s to come, like a food truck serving Japanese style street food.
Kaiju is located in Germantown at 1004 E. Oak Street. They are open daily from 4:00 P.M. to 4:00 A.M.
