    On May 3rd some of The Julep’s celebrities will be coming in town early to show cancer survivors support at TheCharlie Lustman 2012 Cancer Survivor Celebration.  This annual celebration honors all the individuals who struggle with cancer and the battle they have to endure as well as the clinicians and researchers at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center who are with them throughout the entire process.  Amongst many other celebrities, three celebrity musicians: singer Angie Johnson, CeeLo Team Member on The Voice, cancer survivor and singer-comedian Charlie Lustman, and the Jamey Aebersold Ensemble will be entertaining guests.  Angie will perform a few songs just prior to the main program.  Mr. Lustman who now devotes his time to entertaining others in his “Musical Hope Campaign” will entertain before and during the program.  The Jamey Aebersold Ensemble will be providing jazz music before and during the program.  Jamey Aebersold is an American jazz saxophonist born in New Albany, IN and an internationally renowned jazz educator who has been a great anti-smoking advocate in the community for years.  Jamey answered a few questions for Louisville.com      

    How do you go about spreading cancer awareness?

    "We do school programs, and I sponsor some billboards that show the dangers of smoking. I also print QUIT EASY which is a smoking cessation book. We send it all over the world and it’s free."

    How did you get involved with Kentucky Cancer Program and/or the University of Louisville’s James Graham Brown Cancer Center?

    "Pam Jennings has asked us to play their event numerous times."

    Do you have any other special Derby plans this year?

    "I’m playing for Clark Co. Hospitals big event Derby Eve at Kye’s in Jeffersonville."

    For a list of celebrity guests attending The Julep click here. There will also be a “Walk the Red Carpet” contest judged by Tonya Abeln, Carrie Reichenbach, and Gunnar Deatheridge.  The contest is open to all participants.  This will be the first time ever that celebrities attending The Julep will meet and mingle with cancer survivors at The 2012 Cancer Survivor Celebration.
