It's likely the last few days of glorious warm weather have you dreaming about the summer season, which is quickly approaching. But accompanying thoughts of sunshine and swimming pools are also probably concerns about entertaining your children for three whole months without the aid of the Louisville school systems! Luckily, the Jewish Community center is one step ahead, and will be hosting a Summer Camp Open House on-site on Sunday, March 18, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
With such a variety of activities being offered this year, presentations will be given every half hour outlining the different types of camps in rotation. Staff will be present to give guided tours of the facilities and address any questions or concerns from parents. Curious potential camp attendees are also encouraged to come and get a preview of what the summer holds in store.
JCC has already released some exciting details of the programs being offered, which cater to every age group. Children in the third through sixth grades will be able to test-run the brand-new 3D theme of the arts camps, and express their creativity through sculpting (with myriad materials on deck, ready to be poured, squeezed, twisted, and trimmed). CenterStage, which was enormously popular last summer, will return for an encore, available for students in Kindergarten through sixth grade. Classes exploring the art of musical theater will lead up to a final show-stopping performance at the end of the two weeks! Even the youngest among camp-goers -- those aged 20 months through four years -- can be signed up for the adventurous Camp J-Tots. The theme of this camp changes on a weekly basis, so the elements of storytelling, art, music, and cooking employed by camp staff will be sure to keep pace with the mercurial interests of toddlers.
Of course, it wouldn't be a JCC summer without daily access to the facilities' outstanding pools. Every child in attendance at a JCC camp will have daily swims in the three pools on site. Kindergartners through sixth-graders will hit the water in the afternoon, while free swim lessons will be offered for all participants in Camp Keff and two- through four-year-olds. With such a diversity of programs available to you in the heart of Louisville this summer, it should be a warm, sunny breeze finding diversions for the restless youngsters in your family.
The Jewish Community Center was founded in 1890 and continues to promote the physical, intellectual, and spiritual wellness of the individual through multiple services and programs.
