I’m a jazz junkie, that being said, I can never find enough jazz in this city to get my proper fix.  Well, Varanese intends to fix my fix.

Local Jazz great and music teacher Jeff Sherman along his students will be performing at Varanese (2106 Frankfort Avenue) on April 21st at 7:00 PM.  The show is an end of the semester performance where Sherman can show off to the public his legion of musical protégés.  The skill level of the students will range from intermediate to professional, the group of about 30 perfomrers will be comprised mostly of guitar, bass, drums and singers; and they will be divided into 5 smaller ensembles: two "mainstream" ensembles, two jazz guitar ensembles, and one classical guitar ensemble; each group will perform 6-8 songs.

Sherman has been teaching music since 1966, and has performed on-stage and in the studio with legends like Marvin Gaye, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughn.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
