Caroline Petrik has had a passion for music her entire life. Growing up Caroline took piano and violin lessons, participated in her school music ensembles, and continued to grow as a musician. After high school she attended Bellarmine University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music technology. Although Caroline has loved singing her entire life, it was at this point that she sought out private instruction in jazz vocal training. Some of Caroline’s most influential teachers include Aaron Boaz (violin), Dave Clark (jazz ensemble at Bellarmine), Doug Elmore (high school orchestra), Sharon Newton (piano), and Christina Bouras Recktenwald (voice).
After graduating college, Caroline became very active in the Louisville music scene. Currently she plays with Dark Side of the Wall, Toledo Bend, and VoJazzTrio. As you can imagine Caroline stays very busy with her performance schedule. At this very moment she is playing with Dark Side of the Wall on WFPK’s “Live Lunch.”
She has a similar role in each band she performs with. In Dark Side of the Wall, Caroline is a backup singer and occasionally plays violin. On February 13th you will be able to hear them on WHAS 11’s morning show, and on February 25th they will have a show at the Brown Theatre, 315 W Broadway. Ticket prices for the Brown Theatre show start at $25.
In Toledo Bend, Caroline is the co-lead singer and frequently plays violin. This band is personally my favorite of the three that she is involved in. I love their western drive and edgy sound. Kacy has a voice of an old soul, and Caroline has a sweet angelic voice. The two voices contrast nicely. I also have a soft spot for violin in rock music. Toledo Bend just released their new CD Kinship. At this point in time the CD is only available for purchase from the band members. I highly recommend you check out Kinship.
Toledo Bend's CD Release Show at Headliner's January 7, 2012.
Lastly, VoJazzTrio is a jazz trio that Caroline sings in. You can hear them live at The Marketplace: at Theater Square, 651 S Fourth St, every Wednesday and Saturday night.
