Sorry for the business speak, but when a wine store has a tasting, it's the epitome of a win-win.

    • The attendee wins because, hey, free booze.
    • The shop wins because it increases its sales as people who attend the tasting probably won't leave without buying a bottle or two.

That being said, it's surprising that more wine stores in Louisville don't offer them, especially on a week night when they likely don't have as many customers as on a weekend.

    The Wine Market
The Wine Market (1200 Bardstown Road) has wine tastings from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month.

January's theme is fireplace wines, described as "perfect for sipping in front of the fire." (I'm glad they added the explanation; "fireplace wines" reminds me of that glass I once had that was so bad I emptied it into the fire.)

Also, The Wine Market keeps a list of area wine events on its website.

    The Wine Studio
The Wine Studio's (610 W Magnolia Ave.) January tasting features Italian wines from SollAir Imports, a supplier to many New York City restaurants. The tasting, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m., also includes Italian cheese and charcuterie. The cost is $20 a person and RSVPs are requested (502-817-7936).

Party Mart Warehouse Wine Tasting and Sale
Sample any six of more than 30 wines at Party Mart Warehouse (4808 Brownsboro Road) on Jan. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. (local laws prohibit pouring more than six ounces at a tasting). This tasting, one of the biggest Party Mart has ever had, will be accompanied by a sale, where many bottles will be 40 to 60 percent off. And the tasting is free.

    Tyler Park Wine Tasting
On Jan. 25 the Tyler Park Neighborhood Association is hosting it's third annual wine tasting from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mid City Mall (1250 Bardstown Road). The aforementioned Wine Market will feature six wines while ValuMarket supplies the food. Tickets are $20 a person and available at The Wine Market.
