    Bit to Do

It is time for wine at the Ice House

On a recent episode of the television comedy “The Big Bang Theory,” America’s most insufferable geek, Dr. Sheldon Cooper was arguing with his girlfriend Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler during their romantic (a relative term as fans of the show know) date and he described wine as “grape juice that burns.” On the same show, another character named Penny enjoys wine as other people enjoy a good glass of water during many, if not most, of the episodes.

For Louisvillians who are somewhere in the middle of the Sheldon-Penny scale, the Ice House at 226 East Washington Street will begin their new wine tasting series “Straight From The Bottle” on Thursday, May 22 starting at 6pm.

For $20 per person or $90 for the full six week course you’ll get small appetizers that complement the wine you sample. Additionally, there’s a cash bar before and after the class. Perhaps you can use that opportunity to get in some extra credit work. Extra credit works in any class situation.

Louisville native Erica Schnell, the Director of Business Development at the Ice House and Crushed Ice Events, leads the class. Her credentials include graduation from Murray’s Cheese School in New York City, as well as being a member of the Thirsty Girl network which is a group of women who love, among other things, food and wine. Want to guess where she got involved with them? At the New York City Wine Expo. All that bookends nicely with her Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Stetson University.

Schnell will show off not only a variety of wines, but also the variety of techniques used to sample the vino. Schnell’s got the bona fides so don’t expect just any old burning grape juice.

This event is also a chance to check out the new Ice House Lounge where the tasting will be held. Space is limited, so the venue suggests that your get tickets as soon as you make the decision to go. You can call 502-589-4700.
