Wow. I’ve lived in Louisville since 1989. I graduated from Eastern High School. I am a proud alum of the University of Louisville. I worked for the Louisville Free Public Library for seventeen years giving to our youth. I met my husband, who grew up in the south end, between Middletown and Jeffersontown. And I gave birth to both of my children here in this city at Norton Suburban Hospital. I really love being a Louisville Cardinal, and a longtime Louisvillian.
I was not always such a sports fanatic. It’s still sort of uncommon for females to be this crazed. I can’t help but just love the University of Louisville athletics. I graduated from the University and hold my degree as a prized possession. It wasn’t until I met my husband that I really turned into a fan. The two of us have traveled alone to watch the football team play in the Orange Bowl in Miami, with our daughter to watch them battle in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, and most recently took both of our kids to that victorious win in Lou’Orleans.
All last weekend leading up to this championship game last night, I really took the Mayor’s ‘Ware’ Red Day to heart. We were finishing up our staycation across the river and I was just emphatic about getting as many photographs of us in our red in front of the river city’s skyline. My kids and I were downtown at the Kentucky Center for the Arts and walked across the new pedestrian bridge from the Belvedere to the Ali Center. I met the nicest couple from Chicago who asked, “Are you from around here?” Oh yes, yes I certainly am. They asked me about our river, the locks system, the fossil beds and the bridges, the Falls of the Ohio, and throughout the whole conversation I was just swelling with pride to be able to tell tourists a little bit about Louisville and make them glad they visited.
I took part in Mayor Greg Fischer’s contest of the best dressed red throughout the city on Monday. I’ve read so many status updates and liked what seemed like 100 of them last night throughout that game. Here are some of my favorites:

And today, Mayor Fischer announced a city-wide celebration and parade to commemorate the championship.
There are so many family friendly opportunities to enjoy the Louisville Cardinals as well. From $2 tickets to watch the women’s basketball team play at the Yum Center, free baseball games at Jim Patterson Stadium, joining the Cardinal Kids Club for freebies, to the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Spring Game, (the UofL football team’s red-white scrimmage), this Saturday, April 13 at 1:00pm; we take part in all of these and hardly spend a dime doing so.
I’ve just been satiated with delight, happiness, and gratification along with thousands of other Louisville Cardinal fans over all of this fanfare and victory. It is addictive. It’s sweeping our city, but I think in a good way.
I love living, breathing, working, and raising my family in Louisville, Kentucky. And yes that family of mine is a Cardinal family. We wear red all of the time, and will continue to as we are Louisville First, Cards Forever indeed. I get more excited about this Victory in the Ville the more I think about it. What a win for those players, that band of brothers, the fans, and this city. It is such a great feeling to be keeping the championship in this beautiful state of Kentucky. Photos by Erin Nevitt
